About Us
The Sailing School
Our sailing school is situated in Puerto de Mogan at the south west corner of Gran Canaria in fact, the most southerly RYA school in Europe.
Puerto de Mogan is a small, thriving town, attracting tourists and sailors from all over the world. A pretty, gentle place, it offers many restaurants and bars surrounded by beautiful scenery. It has the added attraction of having the most year round sunshine than any other place in Europe.
Whether you arrive by bus or taxi, you will be met by a member of the AISTraC team - it is only a couple of minutes walk to the marina.
Our chief training vessel is a 36' Van de Stadt, steel construction Bermudan sloop. It is coded to a high safety standard and is very well equipped for ocean sailing and with it's spacious flush deck offers the best kind of training experience.
Our Sail Training Principal learned to sail in the Thames estuary, English Channel and the North Sea. He has achieved many RYA qualifications, both practical and theory. He started at the very bottom and is now an RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Instructor. He has crossed the Atlantic many times, both for fun as well as a delivery skipper and has taken part in international racing events, such as the Whitbread Race, Sydney-Hobart Race, Fastnet Race and (AZAB) Azores and BackRace.
He has been involved in teaching people with disabilities and also corporate team building sailing courses.
His passion now is to pass on his skills to other people.
We truly believe that, although new electronic navigational techniques are available, the art of traditional navigation and seamanship is vital for safety at sea. These skills are the core of successful sailing and are taught until you understand them!
